Do you have a few moments? If so, you can make a huge difference to the visibility and discoverability of my novel, Past Mistakes.
Below is a list of things you can do to help promote Past Mistakes. They’re easy, they’re quick, they cost you nothing. They make a big difference to me though!
Tell Someone
This is the lowest-effort thing you can do. If you read urban fantasy, then the chances are someone you know also reads urban fantasy. Pick up a phone or launch an email program, write them a quick note: “An author I follow wrote an urban fantasy novel that looks great. Have you taken a look? It’s called “Past Mistakes” and it’s about a female exorcist in New York”. Drop them a link to the book (https://nicklavitz.com/orps), or to the page on my website (Past Mistakes). Tell them it’s free on Kindle Unlimited.
Leave A Review (this is the big one)
If you’ve read the book, click through to Amazon and leave a review there. This moves the needle more than anything else.
Read and Review
Do you review books? Do you have an online presence on a platform as a book reviewer? If so, I will send you a copy of the book for free, just reach out to me at my email (nicklavitz @ gmail.com)
If you don’t have an online presence as a reviewer but would like to review it anyway, please reach out and tell me where you’d leave your review, I’m happy to send out a limited number of free copies.
Promote on Social Media
Do you have an online social media presence? Do any of your contacts there read or like urban fantasy? Add a quick post about the author you follow who dropped a novel in August. Don’t have time to write? Steal this: “Excited about the new novel by Nick Lavitz. Past Mistakes is the story of Emily Voss’s adventures exorcising demons in New York City while facing demons of her own. It’s Jessica Jones meets the Dresden Files. https://nicklavitz.com/pastmistakes #urbanfantasy #femaleprotagonist”. Swap in the relevant tags for your platform.
Add to, or vote on, a Goodreads list
Goodreads has lists for best urban fantasy, best novel like the Dresden Files, best fantasy, etc. If (and only if) you think my book belongs there, you can click over to one of those lists and add it, or vote for it if it’s already there.

Here are some direct links to some of these lists, bear in mind you can only vote once.
Goodreads is a little finicky. You need to be using a computer. You need to go to the list you think Past Mistakes belongs in (I provided a list below) and click on the tab “Add Books To This List”, then click “Search” and find it in the search box (“Nick Lavitz”), make sure you pick the one with the right cover.
These are ordered by my preference, so if you’re lost for choice, start at the top, if you have a strong opinion, click on the most relevant to you!
